Considered to be a marathon of international repute, Beijing International Marathon is one of the world’s largest running events. It was initiated in the year 1981 and has been
regarded as an event to be marked in the international calendar ever since. The Beijing International Marathon has been approved by the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) and pulls in an average crowd of 30, 000 people annually.
Beijing International Marathon has three running segments to cater to runners at different levels. While beginners can be a part of the mini marathon, more experienced runners can participate in the half marathon of 21 kilometres or full marathon of 42 kilometres. Runners in the mini marathon cover a distance of 9 kilometres. The event also features a smaller run of 4.2 kilometres. The time limit for the full marathon, half marathon and the two mini marathons of nine kilometres and 4.2 kilometres is five hours, 2 hours 30 minutes, 1 hour and 25 minutes respectively.
Beijing International Marathon is usually held in October and the start of the race usually starts in Tian’anmen Square and will commence at 7 am in the morning. Along the course of the race, runners can expect to see noted tourist attractions and the beautiful scenery of Beijing. For the benefit of runners, food as well as first aid will be provided at the starting line, along the marathon trail and also at the end of the race.
