Shanghai Grand Prix - Formula One, China
Shanghai F1 Grand Prix
The Chinese Formula One Grand Prix is part of the Formula One World Championship series and is now on the annual calendar, with the venue the city of Shanghai at the Shanghai International Circuit
The first Shanghai Grand Prix took place in the year 2004 and was won by Rubens Barrichello, who was driving for Ferrari. The
Shanghai Grand Prix spans over three days, with the drivers being allowed three practices before the qualifying round on the second day. The main race takes place on the third and final day.
Drivers must complete 56 laps in order to complete the Shanghai Grand Prix race, which is a little over 300 Kms long in total. The track at the Shanghai International Circuit is 5.5 kilometres long, with 16 turns. The track is well known for its tricky corners, especially the first and the second turn, which are 270-degree turns that are considered to be the toughest in the Formula One circuit.
This racecourse was designed by Herman Tilke, an architect responsible for many of the Formula One race tracks around the world like the Malaysian Sepang International Circuit and the Bahrain International Circuit in the Middle East. The Shanghai International Race Course is one of the most expensive circuits in the Formula One. The construction itself cost well over $400 million and covers an area of over 5 square kilometres.
