Jiangxi in China
The region of Jiangxi is one of China’s prettiest provinces. There are wonderful mountains bathed in mist, crystal clear freshwater lakes, and mystical historical sites steeped in history and symbolism.
China’s longest river, the Yangtze, passes through Jiangxi province which derives its name from the time of the Tang Dynasty, which began almost
fourteen hundred years ago.
The population of about 40 million enjoys a warm and humid climate although the winters are cold. The land is naturally beautiful thanks to a plethora of mountains, rivers and lakes. Poyang Lake is China’s largest freshwater lake and is the winter home for nearly 3,000 white cranes.
On the east side of Poyang Lake is Mount Lushan, which is a popular summer resort because of its lush vegetation, steep ravines, rapid streams, spectacular waterfalls, and deep, clear, fresh water pools.
Within Jiangxi Province is Jingdezhen, the 'Capital of Porcelain' and a production centre for ceramics for nearly two thousand years, initiated during the Eastern Han Dynasty. A major centre for ceramics, the old town of Jingdezhen is a delight to visit as are the numerous pottery factories with their ancient kilns and traditional practices.
Apart from porcelain, Jiangxi is equally renowned for its production of Black Tea in the Ningzhou City region and for its production of Green Tea in the Wuyuan City region.
The capital city in Jiangxi Province is Nanchang and west of Nanchang is Tengwang Pavilion, which was built in 386 and is a must to visit. It became renowned thanks to a poem called 'Preface to Tengwang Pavilion' written by Wangbo, who was a poet during the Tang Dynasty, 1200 years ago.
